We can’t afford to stand by and watch journalism in America melt away, a supposed victim of technological progress that is destroying a traditional business model. Not a day goes by when we don’t hear or read about the difficult if not dire straights of the newspaper business. I don’t pretend to have the answers, but we had better start asking questions and realizing that the loss of the P-I, among others, would be a staggering loss to our community and a direct assault on the American people’s right to know.
